A Common God

A Common God

All men have a common God. In Acts 17:28 Paul says that “in Him we live and move and have our being.” If this is really true, then all men experience God. She is within us, holds us together, and speaks to us. I think this is rather inclusive. I have talked to people that didn’t believe in Jesus, but we could still agree on this this phenomena called conscience.

As if that weren’t enough, Paul goes further in Romans 1:20, saying that “since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

In the common experience of nature and conscience we can experience and worship God without any direct revelation as we find in sacred writings around the world. Many humans have only experienced spirituality through nature and conscience.

The reality of the Spirit (conscience) and God’s creation are striking revelations that we are all connected in our common core experiences of life. This common experience fosters inclusion, but only if we can keep our dogmatic declarations and affiliations out of the way. Scripture and sacred writings are johnny-come-latelies. They are important in broadening our understanding but must bow to our universally shared experiences in nature and conscience.

All men share these spiritual connections. We are all bound together by the truth that, indeed, everything is spiritual—or nothing is.
